Win32.Viking.Gen
Win32.Viking.Gen
Win32.Viking.Gen is a combination of a worm and a virus spreading through removable media and network sharing platforms. One of the common symptoms of getting infected by Viking.Gen is the reduced performance of the infected system. It is a usually seen to have a severe effect on HTML and other executable files. The virus deletes dynamic link libraries (dlls) and copies itself in their place. The virus also modifies the executable files such that it is executed first, in order for it to spread. The Win32/Viking.Gen virus is known to be created as: %System%driverstxplatform.exe. It changes the registry keys as the first thing it does once it finds its way into the system. This allows it to be seen as a legitimate application by the antivirus; it can easily bypass a computer system’s security settings.
